Building’s roof collapses; one dead, four injured

Roof of a single-storeyed building collapsed killing one labourer and leaving four others grievously injured in the Karawal Nagar area of Noth-east Delhi on Tuesday morning. The deceased has been identified as Rajinder while the injured are Rohtas, Satyadev, Sunita and Banne Khan. Police said that they have registered a case against the building owner.

According to the fire department officials, they received a call at around 11.45 am that a portion of the roof collapsed. Five fire tenders were rushed to the spot. A fire official said that it took more than five hours to carry out the rescue operations.

Meanwhile, according to the police, the incident took place at around 11.30 am in the Karawal Nagar area when the roof of an under-construction building collapsed. Five labourers working on the site were trapped in the debris. A team of SDM, fire and police rushed to the spot to rescue the labourers.

Locals informed the police, fire department and other concerned civic authorities after which all the five were rushed to the Guru Tegh Bahadur hospital where one labourer identified as Rajinder succumbed to his injuries while the others identified as Rohtas, Satyadev, Sunita and Banne Khan suffered severe injuries.

According to a police officer, a case under Section 304A (causing death due to negligence) has been registered at the Karawal Nagar police station against the building owner, identified as Naresh. Efforts are on ton nab the accused at the earliest, said police. Further investigation in the matter is still on.
