Building material supplier shot at

A 38-year-old building material supplier was shot at following a scuffle with members of his rival “syndicate” during a roof-top party on Thursday night at Bansdroni. Police said the victim Rajib Nandi alias Joy received three bullets in his stomach and is fighting for his life in a private hospital off EM Bypass.

Preliminary investigation  revealed Nanti’s involved in Thursday night’s incident of firing. He was the
prime accused in the Haridevpur firing incident where a youth was killed when his associates had opened fire following a brawl in a restro-bar.

A police officer said that the party was arranged on the roof top of a real estate developer, Biswajit Poddar, at Jayashree in Bansdroni. Rajib along with his rival building material suppliers were invited in the party.

Nanti’s associates including Johny Ganguly, Subrata Roy alias Bhai, Shuklal Naskar, Kala and Mona had reached the party after Rajib. Police came to know from the victim’s family members that Nanti’s associates had rivalry with Rajib following differences in opinion over the share of building materials to be supplied. A month ago Rajib had also received threats from member of his rival group as there was a trouble over the share of money that they collectively made an income after supplying materials for a project. They had earned Rs 8 lakh and the share of the money among three of them including Rajib had led to a fresh trouble recently.

Police also came to know that the victim had beaten up Tubai, who is close to Johny, on April 14 and this is another reason behind Thursday night’s incident. Police suspect that the same issue had led to a heated altercation between Rajib and members of his rival group. It soon turned to a scuffle and plastic chairs and tables on the roof-top were found strewn all over. Everyone including the victim came down to the road from the terrace following the scuffle and Rajib’s rival shot at him. Police suspect after preliminary investigation, that Mona had opened fire at Rajib. Five bullets were fired at him. The victim had received three bullets in his stomach while two missed the target.

The miscreants fled from the area soon after the incident. Neighbours came out hearing the sound of the firing and found Rajib lying in a pool of blood and the miscreants had fled from the area. They took him to a private hospital where he is still fighting for his life. Police arrested Johny and Mona from their hideouts. A Scorpio was also seized. A police officer said that they would interrogate both of them to know what had actually taken place and who had opened fired at Rajib. Raids were being conducted to arrest others involved in the crime.

Officers-in-charge of all police stations have been directed to take stringent steps to check such incidents which create panic among common people. In another incident, a civic police volunteer, Kaizarul Sheikh, was shot at by miscreants at Narayanpur Block II.
