Building collapses in Geeta Colony, 4 hurt

Four persons were injured in Geeta Colony area of east Delhi, after an under construction portion of a building collapsed on Monday.

According to Fire department officials, a call in this regard was received at 11.05 am. ‘Immediately, two fire tenders were rushed to the spot. The officials rescued four persons from the collapsed portion, who were stuck inside under the debris. All of them are  critically injured,’ the official added.

The injured were immediately rushed to the nearby GTB hospital. The victims have been identified as Raja, 18, Bholu, 21, Shahid, 22, and Choty Lal, 40.  ‘It will take them some time to recover from the injuries,’ said a doctor, who is looking after them.

‘The victims were working on the second floor when the balcony portion of the floor suddenly collapsed,’ the official added.

Police said the cause of the collapse is yet to be identified but prima facie it appears that the second floor of the building was constructed just a day ago. It was not yet strong but the workers started construction work on the third floor.  A case of negligence has been lodged against the builder at Geeta Colony police station. No arrest, however, has been made in the case so far. ‘Investigation is going on,’ a police official said.

In August, a similar incident was reported from the same area, in which three persons were killed and five  were injured. An under construction building had fallen on the labourers and a few people
walking past that building.
