‘Builder, administration should be brought to book’

Hundreds of residents of posh Sushant Lok in Gurgaon, protested against the district administration on account of failing to provide basic amenities to the residents such as water, proper sewerage, electricity, security and well-maintained roads.

The incident took place on Wednesday at around 10 am when around 200 residents of Sushant Lok colony assembled at the MG Road Metro station and blocked the busy Mehrauli-Gurgaon (MG) road for 20 minutes, protesting against the district administration as well as Ansal realtors.

The traffic was not reported to be affected as they only blocked one passage way which connected Iffco Chowk and Mehrauli. The residents moved away after senior Gurgaon police officers intervened into the matter.

The residents were alleging that Ansal Properties and Infrastructure earlier had assured the residents in 2006 after signing a Mutual Understanding (MoU) agreement that they would take Rs 1
per yard as maintenance charge. But, now, the contractor of Anzal Properties is taking Rs 3 which is burning a hole in the pockets of the residents.

The residents said that the realtor is taking maintenance charges but there has been no work absolutely in this direction.

The colony’s street lights are un-functional and the residents are reeling with the problem of sewerage with over flowing drains, scarcity of water, no proper security, no power back-up coupled with lifts which are non-functional.

‘We are planning to sit on indefinite hunger strike at the Ansal office at A-block on 10 June if our demands are not fulfilled. Only 20 minutes water supply is given to us in the mornings and evenings respectively, which is definitely not enough,’ said PK Bhatia, general secretary, RWA, Sushant Lok.
