BSF puts up posters with pics of elusive Maoist cadre

BSF has put up posters containing photographs of 20 hardcore Maoists in Boipariguda block in the district as part of its community policing campaign.

These posters, spotted at Ramagiri, Kandulbeda, Baligaon and other remote areas, also referred to the cash awards announced by governments of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh for information about the Maoists.

“Through the posters we want to tell people that the Red rebels have not done anything good for tribals. They have only killed innocent people accusing them of being police informers,” said a senior BSF officer posted at Boipariguda.

“We urge the people to maintain distance from the Maoists and not cooperate with them in their illegal activities,” he added.

“Photographs of rebels have been pasted in remote areas so that villagers can identify them, if ever the ultras visit their area. Anyone who informs police or the BSF about the whereabouts of the extremists will get the cash award,” the official said.

According to intelligence inputs, top Maoists may infiltrate into Ramagiri area, spurring the BSF and police to intensify combing operations.

“Our men are on high alert as rebels might try to execute some offensive during New Year celebrations,” said Inspector General of Police (South-Western range), YK Jethwa.
