BSF arrests smugglers from Kaliachak and Mustafapur

In a major breakthrough, Border Security Force (BSF) arrested the kingpins of a fake currency racket and a group of firearms smugglers from the bordering areas in Kaliachak and Mustafapur. 

Acting on a tip-off, BSF jawans conducted special operations near Link Road at Kaliachak on Saturday night and found the kingpin of one of the rackets trying to flee with a bag. 

The jawans chased and arrested him. They found something in the bag wrapped in plastic. After opening the plastic, the jawans found bundles of notes of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 denominations. Further investigation revealed that the notes were counterfeit. The seized counterfeit currecies were of face value of Rs 2.68 lakh. 

There were 169 and 198 notes of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 denomination. The jawans also recovered two mobile phones and four SIM cards from him. 

At Mustafapur, BSF jawans conducted a raid and found some people who were trying to smuggle firearms. 

Finding the jawans approaching, the accused apart from two had managed to escape leaving behind the bags containing firearms including pistols and air guns.  

The BSF jawans had chased them but they had managed to flee due to heavy fogg. 

Later the jawans opened the bag and found two pistols, two country-made weapons and three air guns. 

BSF jawans handed over the accused to the local police for further investigation. It may be mentioned that South Bengal Frontier of BSF has seized counterfeit currency worthy Rs 10.68 lakh in the past one month.

Moreover, steps have been taken to increase the vigil in the bordering areas and directions have been given to take strict action if anybody is found smuggling any kind of goods or try to sneak into the country with counterfeit currency.
