Broken down truck in Hooghly delays trains for several hours

Train services in the Up Howrah-Burdwan section were disrupted for a few hours after a loaded truck broke down on the railway track near Baidyabati railway station in Hooghly.

The incident occurred around 5.30 am on Wednesday, when the loaded truck was crossing rail gate number 12 on GT Road near Baidyabati station and suddenly broke down.

Police and Government Railway Police officers reached the spot to inspect the situation.

Some railways officials also reached to the spot. As a result of the truck being broken down and a 
portion of it lying on the railway tracks, the rail gate could not be put down at the level crossing.

The incident led to disruption in railway services on the section.

Many long distance trains were stranded at different stations.

Railway officials decided to divert the stranded trains through the Down line.

Many other trains, both locals and long distance trains, were delayed due to the incident. Several passengers in the affected trains were seriously inconvenienced.

Around 11.30 am, the truck was removed from the track and train services resumed.

As a result of the incident, a huge traffic jam was created on GT Road. School and college-goers faced serious problems. A huge contingent of police force rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control.

All the trucks from Chandannagar, Chuchura and Seoraphuli were diverted through Delhi Road to ease out the traffic congestion on GT Rvvoad.
