Brave guards foil bid to steal car

A car robbery attempt was foiled  in Pitampura on Monday, thanks to two brave security guards.

The incident took place in the early hours of Monday. A group of robbers were trying to steal a Bolero car parked outside a jewellery showroom, when the security guards, identified as Lalit and Krishan, opened fire.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police [north-west] Romil Baniya said, the incident was reported around 3:45 am outside Heera Jewellers.

The guards posted outside became suspicious when the youths kept loitering around. Meanwhile, one of them succeeded in breaking open the lock of the vehicle and another opened fire on the guards.

Lalit then opened fire with his .315 bore rifle and the bullet hit the driver in his head. Rest of them fled immediately, leaving the vehicle behind.

The vehicle that the robbers were trying to steal is registered in the name of the showroom owner and it was used to carry jewels, said a police official.

A suitable reward has been proposed for the guards for their brave effort, he said. Subsequently, a case under Sections 392/397/307/411 of IPC was registered against the unknown persons at Maurya Enclave police station, the official added.

Investigation in the case is on and efforts are being made to identify the deceased, and others involved in the case.
