Brainstorming session to plan intelligent cities today

The Housing and Infrastructure  Development Corporation (HIDCO) along with the  Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry  of India  ( ASSOCHAM) will hold a brain storming session on Thursday with the idea of setting up of a National Institute of Intelligent Urban design.

Experts from Delhi and Pune will take part in the session along with their concept papers. The secretary IT department T Kumar is also invited to speak at the meeting.

Debashis  Sen, chairman of HIDCO said that as intelligent cities would come up in various parts of the state it was necessary to talk to the planners, IT experts and  those involved in designing new cities. The  concept papers would be discussed and their pros and cons would  be analysed  to make a foolproof plan. Once they are finalized they would be codified  and used to set up intelligent  cities.

The state government has proposed  to set up 6 green field cities  at Baruipur  ( Uttam city), Howrah (Dumurjala), Birbhum ( Gitabitan), Siliguri ( Teesta) and , Asansol  ( Agnibina).  The state government has earmarked land for the projects and thepromoters  will have to  buy them through e-auction. It has been decided that the state government will provide  the infrastructure upto the boundary wall of the proposed projects.  It is a major shift from the usual practice  where the promoter has to run from the pillar to post  to install basis infrastructure. The concepts of  planning of  cities  are changing fast  with the residents enjoying more and more facilities.
