Bombing at TMC rally injures 9

Nine persons including six children were injured when miscreants hurled bombs at a Trinamool Congress victory rally at Basirhat in North 24 Parganas on Saturday morning.

The incident took place at Kripalpur in the Chaiti Gram Panchayat area on Saturday morning. Local TMC leaders said the rally was taken out to celebrate the formation of the government for the second consecutive time. Local people took part in great numbers. When the rally reached an intersection, some miscreants allegedly backed by CPI(M) hurled bombs at the rally injuring 9 people. The injured were rushed to a block primary health centre where they were treated.

Meanwhile, a scuffle with the villagers broke out. A large contingent of police went to the spot and later RAF was deployed to bring the situation under control. Local CPI(M) leaders denied involvement of their party members and termed the incident as a fallout of infighting. They alleged that some TMC members were carrying bombs which went off suddenly.

Local TMC leaders said CPI(M) was trying to create trouble everywhere to discredit the government. The party cadres were attacking TMC supporters and to wash off their hands, CPI(M) leaders are terming such incidents as “fall out or infighting.” It may be mentioned that since the dates of 2016 Assembly elections were announced till Saturday, over 15 TMC workers had been killed.

The CPI(M) has raised a hue and cry and along with Congress leaders are meeting the Governor  seeking his intervention to end post-poll violence. Mamata Banerjee has asked her party members to maintain peace and not to take any revenge.
