Body of youth found near river bank

Mystery shrouds the death of a youth, whose body was recovered from the bank of the Ganges at Chinsurah in Hooghly Thursday night.

Police suspect that he was murdered as there were several injury marks on his body.

The victim, Rohit Yadav’s family members lodged a complaint with Chinsurah police station against five of his friends alleging that they were behind his murder.

Preliminary investigation revealed that his friends went to his house on Wednesday evening and took him along with them saying they had an invitation somewhere.

The victim’s family members were worried as he didn’t return home till late night. They had initiated a search for the victim and even contacted his friends. One of the five friends had taken up the call while rest didn’t respond to the call of the victim’s parents. The youth, who took the call, told that Yadav had returned home in evening.

The victim’s family members went to the house of rest of the four youth, but they failed to give any clue about Rohit.

They couldn’t find him the entire night. Finally his body was found on the bank of the Ganges at Chinsura.

Local people informed the police and the body was sent for an autopsy.

A police officer said that it seems he was stabbed to death and there were some bullet injuries on his body as well. It seems the miscreants had shot him to assure his death.

The police, however, are yet to ascertain the exact reason behind the murder of the youth, but suspect that old rivalry led to the murder.

Police picked up some youth for interrogation that continued till late night on Friday.
