Body of woman found near Katwa railway track

Mystery shrouds the death of a woman whose body was found lying near railway track at Katwa on Sunday morning, triggering tension in the locality.

Police are yet to ascertain the identity of the victim. They said that the woman is aged between 24 to 28 years and was spotted by the local residents early morning and they informed the police. According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that the victim was throttled to death as there were injury marks on her neck and some other parts of her body. Police also suspect that the victim might have been raped before she was murdered. As per the primary investigation, police also suspect that the crime had taken place somewhere else and they later dumped the body near the railway track. The woman was not properly dressed. The investigating officers found a hand bag from the place near the body of the victim.

The incident triggered tension among the local people near Purbasthali railway station. A local flower businessman found the body and informed the other residents. After being informed, police reached the spot and recovered the body. Police are investigating whether the woman had been subjected to physical assault. The primary investigation suggested that the body was dumped in that area between 4 am to 5.30 am. Police are waiting for the post-mortem report.

Police said that an ear phone was recovered from near the dead body of the victim. A slipper was also found beside the body of the woman. However, police did not find any mobile phone from the spot. As per the investigation, police found that there were several injury marks on her body. Her dress were torn which suggest that the victim might have been subjected to physical abuse. Police are also investigating if the victim had come to the spot to watch an immersion of idol. Police started a probe to ascertain the identity of the victim. 

Local people alleged that the area has become a safe haven for the criminals but the police do not take any action. After sun down, the area is frequented by anti-socials. The local people alleged that they informed the matter to the police repeatedly but no action was taken to stop the anti social elements.
