Body of woman found near her apartment in Howrah

Mystery shrouds the death of a 32-year-old woman whose body was found in a passage adjacent to her residential apartment on Narasingha Dutta Road in Howrah.

Police said that the victim, Ranjurani Dutta used to stay in a flat housed in the second floor of the building.

Investigating officers suspect that she died after falling from the balcony of her flat.

However, they are yet to ascertain whether she committed suicide or someone had pushed her from the balcony.

A police officer said that there is a school adjacent to the apartment and guardians of some school goers found the body lying in a pool of blood in the passage.

They informed it to the other members of the apartment.

Police from the local police station went to the spot and sent the body for an autopsy.

Police came to know after speaking to the victim’s family members that the victim’s son and other family members were deep in their sleep and they were informed about the incident by their neighbours.

Her family members told the police that they went downstairs after being informed about the incident from their neighbours and found Ranjurani lying in a pool of blood.

Police came to know that the woman used to go out every day for morning walk and on Saturday too she got ready to go out as she was wearing a monkey cap and a shawl.

“It led to the question that why would she put on her monkey cap if she had planned to commit suicide,” said the police officer adding that they would talk to some of the family members in this connection.

They are just waiting for the preliminary report of the post-mortem which is quite crucial for the case.

The police also came to know that there used to be some trouble in the house. But it had never gone to that level which would prompt her to commit suicide.
