Body of woman found in water tank near Park Street Metro station

A body of a 36-year-old woman was found inside the water tank situated in the back of the Park Street Metro station triggering tension among the local people.

Police said that some local people who run shops in the area smelt a foul smell on Tuesday morning and informed the matter to the police who later traced the body from a water tank. 

Police said that the victim identified as Mujjan Mondal is a footpath dweller. Police are investigating the reason behind her death. They are interrogating the local people in this regard. In the interrogation, police came to know that the victim who used to stay on the pavement had been missing for the last few days. This aroused the suspicion of some of the local people when they got a pungent smell from the area.

In another incident, the body of an elderly man was recovered from Haldia-Mecheda state highway. The local residents found that the body of an elderly person was lying by the side of the road at Nanda Kumar area for a long time in the morning. 

They informed the matter to the police station. The police personnel reached the spot and recovered the body and sent it to a nearby hospital for the post-mortem. Police said that the victim was aged between 60-64.

They are yet to ascertain the identity of the victim. According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that the victim might have been murdered somewhere else and the body was later dumped in the area. 

Police are yet to ascertain the motive behind the murder. Police also said that there were several injury marks on the body of the victim. Police are also contacting the local police station to identify the victim.
