Body of woman found in Park Street

Mystery shrouds the death of a woman whose body was found lying on a pavement at Park Street and Ripon Street junction on early Saturday morning, triggering tension in the locality.

Police are yet to ascertain the identity of the victim but the Police said that the body of the woman is aged between 23 to 26 years and was spotted by the local residents early morning and they informed the police. According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that the victim was throttled to death as there were injury marks on her neck and some other parts of her body.

Police are investigating whether the woman had been subjected to physical assault. Police suspect that the woman might have been murdered in some other place and later, her body was dumped at the Park Street and Ripon Street intersection. The primary investigation suggests that the body was dumped in that area between 4 am to 5.30 am. The local people spotted the dead body covered in a blanket. After being informed, senior police officers from Park Street police station and the Homicide department visited the spot and collected samples. Sniffer dogs were brought to the place to investigate the incident.

A local resident said that he found the body around 6.15 am. The body had become stiff when the people spotted it in the morning suggesting that the murder was committed a few hours ago.
As per the preliminary investigation, police found noose marks on her neck which suggest that the victim was strangulated to the death. Police suspect that the woman had consumed alcohol before she was throttled to death.

Police were investigating whether the victim was sexually abused before being killed. Police suspect that the accused might have been well acquainted with the victim.
