Body of TMC worker found inside mini truck

Mystery shrouds the death of a Trinamool Congress worker whose body with bullet injuries was found inside a mini truck at Maniktala early Wednesday morning.

Police said that the victim Kanhaiya Shaw was a resident of the same area. Though the police are still in a fix to ascertain whether it is a case of homicide or suicide, the victim’s father lodged a complaint with Maniktala police station alleging murder.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was an active member of Trinamool Congress and he came out of his house late on Tuesday night to paint wall graffiti. Every day in the past one week he used to join other party workers at night to make wall graffiti and used to return home in wee hours.

Unlike all other days, he didn’t return home. Finding him missing, his family members contacted the other workers of the party in the area and everyone initiated a search for him.

Local people found Kanhaiya in the mini truck and informed others. Taking a close look, everyone saw that he was lying in a pool of blood.

Police officers from Maniktala police station rushed to the spot and found one single-shot gun, the victim’s mobile phone and an empty bottle of beer there.

A senior police officer said that there were bullet injuries on the left side of his chest. As far as the injuries suggest one bullet was shot at Kanhaiya. The body has been sent for an autopsy and the firearm has been sent for testing.

After visiting the spot, Dhrubajyoti De, Deputy Commissioner of the Eastern Sub-Urban Division, said: “It seems that the incident had taken place where the body was found. It is not a case in which the body was dumped in the mini truck after killing the victim somewhere else.”

Sources said that investigation further revealed that Kanhaiya used to work as a helper in the mini truck in which his body was found. He had quit the job for a few days following some dispute with the owner of the vehicle, but later he had joined the work again.

Police also came to know that he used to speak a lot over phone. It could be with the girl with whom he had an affair.

On Tuesday night, too, he was found sitting inside the mini truck and speaking over phone when other workers of the party had left the place after completing the wall graffiti.

Police, however, spoke to some of his friends and his family members to know whether he had rivalry with anyone.

Sadhan Pandey, the Trinamool Congress candidate from Maniktala Assembly constituency, said there was no incident of firing in the area for the past several years.

Police have started an investigation and they will find out if there is any foul play behind Kanhaiya’s death, he said.
