Body of newborn girl found in garbage vat at English Bazar

The recovery of a newborn girl’s body from a garbage vat at English bazaar area of Malda triggered tension on Thursday morning.

Local people spotted the body inside a vat near the Rajmahal road area.After being informed, 
the police reached the spot and recovered the body and sent it to the Malda Medical College and Hospital for the post-mortem examination.

Manwara Bewa, a local resident on Thursday morning went to the vat to dump some garbage. When she was about to dump the garbage she saw a baby lying inside the vat.

The body of the baby was wrapped in a piece of cloth. After coming to know about the incident, the local residents surrounded the vat. Some of the residents informed the police.

According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that the baby could have been kept there for trafficking.

The accused who had kept the baby in his/her possession might have been scared as the police are on high alert following the recovery of an international infant trafficking racket and the arrest of many persons including three MBBS doctors.

Police have started a probe to find out who had dumped the body there.Police are investigating if the baby was a part of a trafficking racket. Police have started a detailed probe into the incident.

It may be mentioned that ever since the child trafficking racket has been uncovered there were instances of recovery of babies who were sometimes alive and sometimes dead. On Wednesday, three babies were found in a bush near a canal at Chandmala village of Falta in South 24 Parganas.

Local villagers heard the cries of the babies coming out of the bush and informed the police station. Police reached the spot and started a search and recovered the babies from a bush.
