Body of girl-child recovered, agitated crowd attacks police

Body of an 11-year-old girl was found in a canal at Outer Delhi’s KN Katju Marg in Rohini on Friday night. The girl went missing since April 20 from outside her house, where she was last seen playing with other children.

Locals suspect that the girl was sexually assaulted before being killed and dumped. However, the police refused to comment before acquiring the post-mortem report. Agitated locals also held a demonstration against alleged police inaction and blocked the Narela-Bawana road till afternoon.

When the police asked them to clear the road, they allegedly entered into a clash and ended up damaging three police bikes and two police vans. The crowd also tried to set ablaze a police booth and several documents inside the booth were burnt in the process. Later, the police had to use mild force to control the situation, said a source.

Parents of the deceased girl are both labourers. They claimed that they went to the police when their daughter went missing and lodged a complaint but the police allegedly did not take any action. The police called up the parents to identify the girl soon after her body was found in the canal bank on late Friday night. But it was on Saturday morning that the agitation started, which continued till evening, the source added.
