Body of elderly woman recovered

The body of an elderly woman (76) was recovered from her room at North 24 Parganas’ Jagatdal on Friday morning. After the primary investigation, the investigators learnt that the woman was choked to death. The miscreants had also looted valuables worth Rs 1 lakh.

The deceased, found undressed with her legs tied up with the wooden stand of the bed, was strangulated with a rope. The miscreants took her thumb impression on some documents, jewelleries and cash before escaping the spot.

“Her son was the first witness, when he saw his mother’s body lying on the bed. He informed us to come at his house. We recovered the body and sent it for autopsy,” said an investigating officer
“We found a blue spot on the thumb of the deceased, which means she was forced to give thumb impression on some property papers. We found this fact unnatural as dacoits would not compel the house owners to give thumb impressions on property papers. This must be the job of some insider who plotted the whole incident,” the officer said.

The investigators recovered an ink-pad, lying on the bed of the woman as the circumstantial evidence of the case. “Some important papers related to land and other real estate properties were missing. Some jewelleries and cash were stolen from almirah,” said the officer.

The son of the woman, his wife and maid servants was interrogated.

“We’ll interrogate some other family members who are distantly related to the woman. The woman used to get threats from some of her relatives who resided in Barrackpore. Those relatives have gone missing while a police team went to interrogate them,” the investigator added.
