Body of a raped woman found buried near her house

A 38-year-old woman, who was alleged to have been raped and murdered, was buried in a garden near her house at Bongaon in North 24-Parganas. Her body was spotted early Saturday when local people got foul smell and informed the police. The body was excavated and sent for an autopsy.

A police officer revealed after initial investigation that the woman was missing since Thursday after she went out of her house to buy some goods from a local shop. Her family members couldn’t find her despite searching her at all places except the garden situated close to their house.

They lodged a complaint with the police but the police too had failed to trace her whereabouts despite trying their level best. On Sunday morning, a neighbour of the victim went to the garden where she was buried to collect a ball of his son and got foul smell which led to his suspicion. He gathered other residents and finally they informed the police. Policemen from the local police stations engaged daily wage labourers to dig that portion of the garden.

Within a couple of minutes, the decomposed body of the victim was found. Police suspected that she was dragged inside the garden while she was passing through the adjacent road which also had two or three unidentified miscreants who raped and murdered her and in a bid to hide the body they had buried her inside the garden.

The incident led to panic in the area so; the police had cordoned off the garden. Police spoke to the victim’s family members and asked whether they suspect anyone to be behind the murder. Her family members told the police that she hardly used to talk to anyone in the locality and mostly remained inside the house. Thus, it doesn’t seem that she had rivalry with anyone.
