Bodies of 14 CRPF men killed in ambush flown to Raipur

The bodies of the 14 CRPF men killed in an ambush by Maoists in south Chhattisgarh were flown on Tuesday to Raipur, where they were sent for post-mortem examinations. Three men who had been severely injured were also airlifted to Raipur, while 12 others with lesser injuries were shifted to Jagdalpur.

According to ADG (anti-naxal ops) RK Vij, the men are all out of danger.  He added that Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, who arrived in Raipur on Tuesday, had taken stock of the situation, and that there would be “no let up in offensive operations by the police”.

Vij clarified that Monday’s ambush had begun at 2 pm and carried on for an hour, after which there had been no more shooting from either side. He added that the CRPF men had been able to get back to their camp only by 9 pm, where the injured had been attended to by camp doctors. Vij said no helicopter had been able to fly in to evacuate the wounded because the area had not yet been “sanitised”, and that it was only on Tuesday morning that choppers were able to evacuate the wounded and the dead.
