Blast at TMC office kills one, injures five workers

A Trinamool Congress (TMC) worker was killed and five others were injured in an explosion at a party office on the outskirts of Burdwan on Wedneswday.

Superintendent of Police Kunal Agarwal confirmed the incident at Metal DVC area, adding that investigation has begun.

TMC Burdwan unit general secretary Debnarayan Guha alleged that a CPI-M worker Sk Jami-ul barged into the party office and threw a bomb at the six before fleeing. As a result, the head of one of the TMC workers was torn off , killing him on the spot. The others were injured by splinters, Guha said, adding that four of them were admitted to the Burdwan Medical College and Hospital and one to a nursing home.

He said Jami-ul openly abused TMC and had been called to the party office a few days ago and warned against doing so.

State Small Scale Industries Minister and president of TMC Burdwan district (rural) Swapan Debnath also said that CPI-M goons had committed the crime.

However, CPI-M district committee member Ainal Haque said the party was not involved in the blast and instead alleged that it was a result of “inner party clash of TMC”.

“TMC is aiding and abetting violence in that area. We have no role,” he claimed.
