BJP trying to recreate Bofors era: Cong leaders

Launching a scathing attack on BJP and other parties the Congress leaders said on Wednesday that the opposition parties were defaming the Government and Prime Minister Manmogan Singh so as to create a situation like the Bofors scam era.

'And the worst part is that now some foreign journals too are in the nexus with the opposition parties and making propaganda against the government and the PM,' said senior Congress leaders here.

Addressing a joint press conference here, Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and Congress general secretary and in-charge of UP Digvijay Singh, alleged that the articles in the Economist, Time magazine and Washington Post shows that a bigger nexus was working to defame the country.

The leaders claimed that similar situation arose in 1985-90 when the then Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India had alleged scam in purchase of Bofors gun.
