BJP state prez Dilip Ghosh arrested, later released

The police arrested 24 BJP supporters including the state president Dilip Ghosh after they tried to break the barricade and tried to proceed towards Central Avenue.

They were protesting against the failure of the state government to provide adequate infrastructure to the inhabitants of Chitmahal.

The area came under India recently and the inhabitants cast their vote for the first time since Independence after the areas got included in the country. The BJP workers took out a rally from College Street and tried to move towards Central Avenue when they were stopped. The police put up a barricade. The workers argued with the police that they had already taken permission from Lalbazar and the plea taken by the police on duty that the rally would choke traffic Central Avenue was bogus.

The police arrested 24 persons including Ghosh. Six of them including the state BJP president were later releasedGhosh alleged that law and order situation had totally collapsed in the state. He further alleged that the state government did nothing to improve the living condition of the people of Chitmahal. The Centre had provided funds meant for their improvement, but no step has yet been taken to do it.
