BJP slams CM over CNG price hike

Delhi BJP president Vijender Gupta has accused Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit of using 'back door' to increase CNG prices in the city. The party has called for a dharna at 14 major CNG filling stations on Tuesday, demanding roll back of the recent increase.

'The government is hell bent to benefit private companies. The Chief Minister has now increased the price of CNG in the city by Rs 2.90 per kg,' said Gupta.

Presenting the budget in the Delhi Assembly on 11 June, Dikshit had announced five per cent VAT on CNG. The recent hike has increased the price of CNG from to Rs 38.35.

'Be it power, water or CNG, the government wants to benefit private companies,' added Gupta.
He also accused the Delhi government for intentionally trying to spoil the environment of the capital. In Delhi, the price of CNG has increased upto Rs 38.35 per kg, which is close to Rs 41.28 per litre of diesel.

In 2010, the price of CNG was Rs 21.90, which was around half the diesel price.

'The negative aspect of this decision is that due to less availability of CNG fuel and easy availability of diesel at all the petrol pumps in Delhi, people will be inclined to purchase diesel vehicles, which will lead to air pollution,' said Gupta.
