BJP sees foreign hand in FDI policy

Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday alleged that the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in multi brand retail has been done due to pressure of foreign elements and this decision will affect the livelihood of common man who are involved in retail trade.

'BJP strongly condemns this hurried decision forcing FDI in multi-brand retail in India. Inspite of serious opposition from within Congress, its allies and nearly the entire Opposition led by BJP, the government has seriously jeopardised the life, livelihood and employment of five crore people involved in retail trade in the country,' said BJP Chief spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad.

The party alleged that this decision will leave foreign companies richer and the country will be left poorer. 'Outsourcing from India remains a very contentious issue in America and Europe. The government has not been able to extract any firm commitment for India and yet has opened the floodgates to FDI in retail, which will be disastrous for the country,' said Prasad. The BJP leader said that govt had assured that FDI decision will be taken after wide consultations but this is a hurried decision.
