BJP-ruled MCDs celebrate Bal Diwas with great enthusiasm

The corporations have organised cultural programmes in the city in which Congress councillors serving as leaders of opposition in the three civic bodies have also been invited.

Union minister for human resource Smriti Irani will be the chief guest in the cultural programmes of SDMC and Bal Bhawan, Union minister for science and technology will be the chief guest in North DMC while Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay will be the chief guest in an EDMC event. SDMC has organised a mega event at Dr B R Ambedkar stadium which would be inaugurated by Irani on Friday morning in the presence of two Congress leaders — deputy mayor Praveen Rana and leader of opposition Farhad Suri as guests. Here, more than 2,500 children will participate in various cultural activities including folk dances, aerobics, and mass PT.

‘The presentations by the children would highlight their all round development. More than 10,000 children along with their teachers and officers will witness this programme,’ said Mukesh Yadav, director, press and information of SDMC. Earlier, in the day, Irani will also inaugurate ‘National Children Assembly and Integration Camp from 14 – 20 November, 2014’ being organised by National Bal Bhawan in the city.

In the camp every day in the evening performing artistes empanelled with Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Spic Macay and the International Kathakali Kendra will give demonstrations and perform their respective art forms. The children will also showcase cultural programmes, exhibition of art and craft, photographs etc. prepared during their participation at various workshops in the camp.

The North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) has announced to celebrate Bal Diwas in Rani Jhansi stadium to commemorate the birth anniversary of Nehru with Union minister, science and technology, Harsh Vardhan as the chief guest.

However, Delhi government has issued an advisory to all its schools including aided ones to celebrate ‘Bal Swachhta Mission’ from 14-19 November as in context of Swachh Bharat Mission launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 2 October, without any mention of Nehru.
