BJP rolls out top guns to stop AAP juggernaut

With the Delhi BJP unit strangely inert ever since the name of ‘ outsider ‘Kiran bedi foisted on them as Chief Ministerial candidate, and also the strife over the distribution of tickets, the party has mobilised the big guns to win the battle for Delhi. Besides, the Prime Minister, who is scheduled to address four rallies, the party has also sought the services of party biggies like Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj, Human Resources Minister Smiriti Irani, Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Haryana chief minister M L Khattar, and former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu.

While Rajnath Singh will start his election campaign on January 31 by addressing four public meetings in South Delhi -- Badarpur, Sangam Vihar, Okhla and Tughlakabad; Sushma Swaraj started her campaign on Wednesday by addressing three public meetings in the city besides unveiling  the election office of BJP’s  R K Puram candidate Anil Sharma. She addressed public meetings in R K Puram, Mehrauli and Sangam Vihar assembly segments.  Sidhu who was not so active in Lok Sabha elections will address four public meetings on Thursday in Bijwasan, Palam, Delhi Cant and R K Puram assembly segments.

According to sources, BJP cadre are miffed at the party’s Chief Ministerial pick. A section is also unhappy that only two Poorvanchali candidates made the cut. “The party has rolled out the red carpet to turncoats but loyal workers were cold shouldered.” This has demoralised party rank and file,” admitted a senior BJP leader. “The Poorvanchal i cadre has distanced itself from the election campaign and situation is rather bleak,” he added.
