BJP promises cheap power, regular water

The BJP on Sunday promised cheaper electricity and regular water supply in houses that they would be providing to the capital’s 40 lakh slum dwellers if the party was voted to power in the Delhi assembly elections due in November.

Addressing a rally of several hundred slum dwellers here, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Delhi unit president Vijay Goel said ‘everybody would be given a house, cheap electricity and water’ if his party was voted to power.

‘We assure you proper sanitation, safety for women and excellent education in government schools,’ he said.
‘A single-point connection of electricity will be provided to the residents of these colonies. They will get water supply, proper sewage system and even police booths will be set up in these areas to keep a check on crime,’ Goel said.

The Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission on 26 July hiked power tariff in the capital by 5 per cent. The new charges come into effect from 1 August.
Goel further accused the Congress of betraying the 685 slum clusters. There are over 40 lakh inhabitants of these clusters. ‘The CM (Sheila Dikshit) had promised 60,000 low-cost houses for the poor, but only 14,000 of them have been built so far and none of them have been allotted,’
