BJP leader’s murder: Jaya sets up special probe division

Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa on Sunday directed the director general of police to constitute a special investigation division to probe the murder of state BJP general secretary V Ramesh alias Auditor Ramesh.

Ramesh was hacked to death near his house in Salem on Friday. The chief minister condoled the
death of Ramesh. In an official statement, Jayalalithaa said the special division would also take over the ongoing investigation into the murder of S Vellaiyappan, state secretary of Hindu Munnani.
Vellaiyappan was found dead in Vellore on July 1.

The special investigation division will function under director general of police (CB-CID) who will be provided with all resources and manpower necessary to complete the investigation at the earliest and to bring the culprits to book. “I am confident that the guilty will be apprehended soon and dealt with as per law,” she said.

Jayalalithaa said the state police had taken prompt and effective action to detect crimes, including politically motivated crimes.
A special investigation team had been set up in the police department to handle cases of fundamentalist violence.
