BJP hails apex court verdict on Rajasthan panchayat ordinance

BJP’s Rajasthan unit today welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision not to entertain petitions challenging an ordinance recently passed by the Rajasthan government mandating varied educational qualifications for candidates to contest panchayat elections.
BJP hailed the Supreme Court verdict as “a victory of truth”. “Finally truth prevailed... We appeal to all other political parties not to get confused and misled by Congress leaders, and get ready for contesting in the panchayat polls,” BJP spokesman Kailash Bhatt told reporters here.
Bhatt alleged that there was a dearth of qualified candidates in the Congress party hence it knocked at the doors of the court but was turned down. The Supreme Court today refused to entertain petitions challenging the ordinance, saying that High Court was the forum for addressing these issues.
