BJP expels Jethmalani for 6 years

Rebel BJP MP Ram Jethmalani, who had been critical of the BJP leadership and had revolted against former BJP president Nitin Gadkari, was on Tuesday expelled from the primary membership of the party for six years on charges of breach of discipline.

The decision to suspend Jethmalani was taken on Monday after the Parliamentarty Board of the party went through the replies made in response to a show cause notice in November, 2012.

Interestingly, the decision was taken a week after Gujarat chief minister attended the Parliamentary Board meeting in New Delhi. In the past, Jethmalani had voiced his support for Modi as the prime ministerial candidate of the party and it was Modi who had made sure that Jethmalni was nominated for Rajya Sabha.

‘The Central Parliamentary Board after considering all your replies, responses and letters was of the unanimous opinion that you have indulged in a breach of discipline. The Parliamentary Board, therefore, decided to expel you for a period of six years from the primary membership of the party,’ said the letter to Jethmalani by BJP leader Ananth Kumar.
