BJP demands timeline on regularisation

Delhi BJP president Vijender Gupta has accused the Delhi government of ‘cheating’ lakhs of residents of unauthorised colonies and demanded a timeline for regularisation and handing over certificates to occupants living in over 1,200 colonies.

‘On the occasion of every election, the government plays a game with 40 lakh people of unauthorised colonies. This time also, the Delhi Cabinet has played with the people. All the three ministers and the Chief Minister have done the work of putting old wine in a new bottle,’ said Gupta.

‘Will the map of these colonies be required to be approved again? Why did it sit over the aerial photographs of the colonies for about five years? How will it complete all the legal formalities within two months now?’ asked Gupta.

Slamming the Congress government for ‘failing’ to regularise even a single colony in the last four years, Gupta said the Sheila Dikshit government has now decided to initiate development, keeping in view the next year’s assembly polls.

‘The government should tell the people by which date the unauthorised colonies will be regularised. Government decision to expedite the regularisation process is nothing but putting old wine in a new bottle,’ he added. The Delhi cabinet had on Thursday taken a number of decisions aiming to expedite the regularisation process in over 1,000 unauthorised colonies, which have been given clearance by all departments and agencies concerned.

‘The government has deliberately been delaying the regularisation process. It has been cheating lakhs of people of unauthorised colonies. As the assembly polls are due next year, the efforts have started to woo these residents,’ Gupta alleged.
