BJP, CPI(M) trying to destroy fabric of communal harmony: Mamata

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday held BJP and CPI(M) responsible for spreading communal tension in the state and in one breath said that any attempt to destroy the fabric of communal harmony will be dealt with seriously.

“BJP and CPI(M) are fanning communal tension and trying to disturb the communal harmony in the state. Any attempt to disrupt the environment of communal harmony and peace will be dealt with seriously,” she said. She was addressing a rally on Thursday afternoon.

Criticising the Narendra Modi government she said that the Centre was reducing its funds allocation in many projects making it almost impossible for the state government to carry on with them. She said because of the lack of planning of CPI(M) government, the state government had to spend a major portion of its earnings to clear the loan burden.

“For three decades, the CPI(M) government did not do anything for the state’s development and took loans. The situation has become so alarming that a major portion of the state’s earning has to be spent to clear the loan”. The Centre should do something in this regard, she maintained adding: “The CPI(M) leaders have no work to do except finding faults with the state government.”

Warning her party leaders and workers, the Trinamool Congress supremo said: “Those who do not work will be thrown out of the party. We will have to work for the people. I did not raise Trinamool Congress for those who are idle and lazy.”

Banerjee said over the years the situation in Lalgarh had witnessed a major change. “Students can go to school and colleges and hospitals have come up. Jhargram has become a major tourist destination,” she remarked.

Earlier, she held an administrative review meeting with senior officials of the district. Basudeb Bandopadhyay, chief secretary along with Surajit Kar Purakayastha, Director General of police and SK Thade, principal secretary Backward Classes Welfare Department were present at the meeting. She asked the administration to pull up its socks and said that the allegations which she had received about the malpractices in the hospital would be looked into.

She inaugurated a new general Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) training school at Lalgarh under Jhargram Health district. A five storey building having academic and administrative units along with hostel facility for the nursing students has been constructed by the health and family welfare department with financial assistance from Panshimanchal Unnayan Parshad and National Health Mission.

She also distributed bicycles among the students of Class IX in state-run, sponsored and aided schools under Sabuj Sathi project. She laid the foundation stone of the new administrative building in the premises of the District Magistrate’s office. She gave vehicles for carrying fishes, nets, containers, fingerlings etc to fishermen. She gave a machine to make rope from babul grass and musical instruments for tribal artists.
