BJP, Cong create ruckus in UP assembly over corruption issue

Uttar Pradesh assembly was on Wednesday adjourned for 35 minutes after the BJP and the Congress members created noisy scenes and raised slogans against each other over corruption.

Both the BJP and Congress members trouped into the well of the House during zero hour when the House was discussing the funds being given by the Central government for holding Kumbh Mela in Allahabad.

Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey tried to persuade both the BJP and the Congress members to stop their protest against each other and even state parliamentary affairs minister Mohammad Azam Khan said that both the parties should settle their differences out of the House.

Raising the issue of wrong statement made by Khan in the House of Central government not providing financial aid for the Kumbh, Congress Member Akhilesh Pratap Singh placed on record that funds of Rs 1141.62 crores was given to the state government in five installments between 23 November, 2011 and 24 January, 2013.

But Khan contended that the funds were released very late on the intervention of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the state government had to manage its own resources for the preparation at Kumbh.

‘The Kumbh Mela passed off peacefully without even a single incident except stampede at Allahabad Railway station,’ he said.

But the Congress members got irked when BJP legislature party leader Hukum Singh said that whether the finance given by the Centre was from the scam fund.

Later both raised slogans against each other and the house was adjourned for 35 minutes.
