BJP brazens out criticism of Modi speech

While keeping mum about who would be its prime ministerial candidate, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday strongly defended Narendra Modi’s Sunday speech slamming the Congress. Modi, who is being seen as a likely contender for the prime minister’s post from the party, on Sunday lashed out against the Congress and the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty, saying that the Congress had always kept the family above the nation. ‘Whatever Modi said, he said it with certification,’ said  BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain.

The BJP leader also flayed Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar for calling Modi a snake and a scorpion. 'Scorpions and snakes come out from Mani Shankar Aiyar’s mouth,' said Hussain. Asked whether the BJP had accepted Modi as its prime ministerial contender, Hussain said 'We have said that this decision would be taken by the parliamentary board at an appropriate time. Party president Rajnath Singh has also asked leaders not to comment on the issue, so I will not make any further comments.’

The party also sought to know why no case was registered in the AgustaWestland VVIP chopper deal even after a week while the government was insisting on forming a joint parliamentary committee to look into the scam.

MODI NOT NATIONAL LEADER: CONG

A day after Narendra Modi launched an attack on the Nehru-Gandhi family, Congress leader Rajiv Shukla Monday said the Gujarat chief minister did not have the stature to be country's prime minister.

‘The kind of language that Modi used does not suit any leader of national stature. I think he is yet not capable of attaining the stature of a national leader,’Shukla told reporters outside parliament.

The Gujarat chief minister has emerged as a strong contender for prime minister’s post from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

In his speech at BJP's national council meet Sunday, Modi called Prime Minister Manmohan Singh a ‘night watchman’ and said Pranab Mukherjee would have made a much better prime minister.
