BJP attacks Congress on Telangana

Accusing Congress of misleading the people on the issue of Telangana, BJP on Tuesday said the ruling party should make its stand clear on the issue.

'Today we hear that Congress is thinking about creating Telangana. They should take a final call on the issue and not delay it. They should bring a resolution in Parliament, we will support it,' BJP spokesperson Prakash Javdekar said.

He said by not taking a final decision on the issue, Congress is betraying the sentiments of people who have fought for a separate Telangana state.

'Congress should also support Hyderabad as the new capital of the new state,' he said.

Yesterday, Congress President Sonia Gandhi held a meeting and discussed the issue of Telangana with senior party leaders, including union Ministers, amid growing demands for an early decision on the matter.

Though the issue of Telangana was discussed, there was no decision.

There is a growing pressure on the party high command to take an early decision on the politically volatile issue which has divided Andhra Pradesh on regional lines.

The Telangana issue was raised in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly on Tuesday.

AP ASSEMBLY ROCKED AGAIN

The Telangana issue rocked the Andhra Pradesh state assembly for the second consecutive day Tuesday with Telangana Rashtra Samithi [TRS] stalling the proceedings, demanding a resolution for carving out a separate state. Speaker N Manohar adjourned the house for half-an-hour amid noisy scenes and heated arguments among members. He later held a meeting with floor leaders of all parties but it failed to end the deadlock as TRS, Bharatiya Janata Party [BJP] and CPI insisted on a resolution on Telangana while main opposition Telugu Desam Party [TDP] wanted debate on electricity shortage and 'tainted' ministers.

As soon as the house met for the day, the speaker announced that he was rejecting adjournment motions moved by TDP, TRS and other parties on various issues.

The TRS members rushed to the speaker's podium and insisted that the resolution on Telangana be taken up immediately. In an attempt to find a solution, the speaker sought the views of various parties on the issue. TRS floor leader E. Rajender demanded that the assembly immediately pass a resolution.
