BJP adds fuel to fire, says Rahul not ‘PM material’

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), while adding fuel to the fire over Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh’s statement on Rahul Gandhi that he does not have the temperament of a ruler, on Monday claimed that he is not a ‘prime minister material’. Party leader Shahnawaz Hussain, while speaking to the mediapersons said, ‘It was an honest confession from the Congress general secretary. He is talking about leader material. The country should know that Rahul is not PM material.’

While differentiating some of the leaders of Congress including Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi who had ruled the country with the present leaders, he said, ‘There is a new thinking in the Nehru-Gandhi family that they should discharge the role of a ruler but interestingly without taking the responsibility.’ ‘In 2004, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi met the President to stake claim to form the government. Later she handed over the responsibility to Manmohan Singh. It is there trend to become a ruler without taking any responsibility. And, Rahul Gandhi is following the same path,’ he added.

On the context of scams during the UPA rule, he said, ‘They were in power for more than 10 years but always shrugged off responsibility. Their minister A Raja went to jail in 2G scam but it was directed towards the PMO. And, this is what their leader Digvijay Singh was indicating about the new thinking that has emerged now in the Congress party.’ On Saturday, Singh had said that Rahul should have taken up the responsibility of leading the party during the Lok Sabha poll.
