BJP, AAP, NCP declare candidates

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has released its first list of 54 candidates for the Lok Sabha elections on Thursday.

Seventeen names have been cleared from Maharashtra, which include Nitin Gadkari from Nagpur and Gopinath Munde from Beed constituencies in Maharashtra.

Seventeen names have been cleared from West Bengal too. The candidates name which includes magician PC Sarkar (Junior) from Barasat, state president Rahul Sinha from North Kolkata and film actor George Baker from Howrah constituencies.

The BJP has also announced three candidates from Himanchal Pradesh, six from Odisha, five from Jammu and Kashmir, and two each from Arunanchal Pradesh, Manipur and Goa.

Interestingly, party president Rajnath Singh, who had said that he was apologetics towards them and ready to bow his head if the party had committed any mistake, inducted only two Muslim candidates in the first list. They are: Gulam Mohammad Meer from Baramulla and Mushtaq Ahmad Malik from Anantnag in Jammu & Kashmir.

Surprisingly, the party who always speaks for the women’s empowerment inducted only one female candidate Sangeeta Kumari Singh Deo from Bolangir in Odisha.

The Central Election Committee of the BJP met on Thursday evening under the presidentship of Rajnath Singh and has decided the names for the ensuing general elections. Meeting was attended by LK Advani, Murali Manohar Joshi, M Venkaiah Naidu, Nitin Gadkari, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley and all the members of the Central Election Committee of the party.

The party has also given tickets to some of the former top police officials from West Bengal which includes RK Mahanti from Uluberia, Satyalal Sarkar (former DIG, SSB) from Jalpaiguri and Sujit Kumar Ghosh from Murshidabad.

Some of the youth leaders’ names figured in the list include Anurag Thakur (sitting MP and national president BJYM) from Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh and Avijit Das, state BJYM member from West Bengal.

However, the list did not figured the names of senior party leaders like LK Advani, Sushma Swaraj, Uma Bharati and Murli Manohar Joshi. Sources said, ‘Soon they will announce the second list of the candidates.’

Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has also released its second list of Lok Sabha candidates on Thursday. Among the selected candidates, Rajmohan Gandhi is a prominent face who will contest from East Delhi seat against Congress’ Sandeep Dikhsit while Dharamveer Bharti from Patiala, Major Surendra Punia from Seekar, Raza Bhatt from Srinagar, HC Arya from Almora, Rajan Sushant from Kangra, Samina Khan from Sangli, Bhagwat Rajput from Vidisha, General Raj Kadyan from Jhunjunoo.

AAP will also field its candidate Naveen Jaihind, social worker, against Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s son Deepender Singh Hooda from the Rohtak. He led Right to Information Act movement in Haryana and campaigned for Swaraj in the state.

While talking to the media AAP leader Manish Sisodia said ‘The names of all candidates will be on AAP’s website for next 5 days, anyone who has any detail about the candidates can put it on website. Our main objective is to send honest people to Parliament.’

Meanwhile, union minister Praful Patel and Maharashtra minister Chhagan Bhujbal, who is NCP’s OBC face, are among 18 candidates announced by the party on Thursday for Lok Sabha polls in Maharashtra.

Anand Paranjape, who is the sitting member of Shiv Sena from Kalyan-Dombivali, is now the NCP nominee from the seat while the party has fielded former deputy CM Vijaysinh Mohite Patil from Madha, which was represented by party supremo Sharad Pawar.
