Bizman shot at, escapes unhurt

A businessman escaped an injury when some miscreants shot at him from a close quarter. The incident triggered tension at Beniapukur area on Tuesday night.

Police said that the victim, Md Pappu who runs a shoe shop was standing at the Beniapukur area to inspect the ongoing construction work of a new shop. During that time, some miscreants came on motorcycles. One of the accused who was riding pillion took out a gun and fired three round of bullet at the businessman. But the victim had a narrow escape as the bullets passed close to his body.

After hearing the gunshots the local residents rushed to the spot. The accused, meanwhile, fled the spot. After being informed, the police reached the spot and started an investigation. According to the preliminary investigation, police came to know that an old business rivalry might have led to the incident. The victim also told the police that some persons were threatening him over phone. The victim has told the police some names who might have been involved in the incident. After interrogating the local residents, the police came to know that Pappu was involved in the promoting business. In recent past he had some quarrels with some other person involved in the same business over some issue.

Police are investigating if the crime was a result of the quarrel. It was learnt from the local people that some miscreants had earlier attempted to kill Pappu following some business rivalry. Police are also investigating if there is any connection between the two incidents. Police are also interrogating some local people and some of the victim’s associate in this connection so far.

Local residents, however, alleged that police in the area are not vigilant enough, as a result of which such incidents are taking place a repeated number of times. On the basis of the complaint, police have started an investigation and are conducting raids to nab the culprits who were behind the attack.
