Bizman files extortion complaint against BMC Councillor

The police have received a complaint against a councillor of Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) recently alleging he had threatened some person for extortion. However, the police have declined to say anything about the complaint. A top brass of the Bidhannagar police have declined to 
comment on this matter saying ‘no comments’.

However, as per police source, Anup Sharma, a businessman has filed the complaint against the councillor with New Town police station. It is to be remembered that Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation’s councillor, Anindya Chatterjee was arrested on the charge of extortion as he had allegedly insisted Rs 12,000 lakh from a businessman. The businessman had later complaint the matter with local police station.

Chief minister Mamata Banerjee had given strong message to the police to take strict action against extortionists operating in Rajarhat-New Town and Salt Lake. Police however, have said that the search of arresting extortionists will continue against those syndicate and extortionist rackets.

Police have also created a special team to book those extortionists. They are acting on the information given by the sources. However, the police have arrested 15 extortionists from Monday to Thursday. In Friday, no arrests were made.

Last Thursday, police have arrested two accused from Baguiati area. Rafique Gaji and Ismail Gaji, resident of New Town’s Atghora, were booked from Baguiati area, were accused of threatening and extortions in Bidhanagar. They have been remanded for police custody. 

However, several members of Jagadish sporting club, allegedly accused for extortion from a developer in Rajarhat area a few days ago, have been arrested.  Babu Sil, the secretary of that club, have been arrested, on extortion charges.
