Biz houses may have to approach KMC to park vehicles

Now, business houses will have to approach the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), instead of the concerned agencies to park vehicles of their officials, according to a draft parking policy that will soon be placed before a meeting of the Mayor in council members and then before councillors. The meeting is scheduled for January. This is for the first time when the KMC is framing such a policy.

The proposal was prepared, after it was found that commercial establishments often book parking space after consulting parking agencies. As a result, people often find it difficult to park their vehicles. According to the draft proposal, space for diagnostic centres, pathological labs and state and Central government offices should be given priority. Owners or office in-charges will have to get in touch with the civic officials, who in turn will take up the matter with the city police. A joint inspection will be conducted before giving clearance to the applicants.

Business houses, showrooms, retail shops may also approach KMC to book space for their officials.
