Bikers gun down guard, flee with Rs 1.5 crore

According to the police, it was around 11 am when the van arrived at Kamla Nagar market and pulled off near a food joint to refill cash in a Citibank ATM machine adjacent to it. There were four men in the van, including two custodian officials, a driver and a guard. When the two officials went inside the ATM kiosk to refill cash in the machine, the security guard stood outside the ATM.

All of a sudden, the two miscreants approached the guard, identified as Satinder Singh, and one of them opened fire at him. The other went inside the kiosk, took the suitcase full of cash and fled the spot. They also shot a few bullets in the air to intimidate those who were there in the crowded marketplace and made their escape easier. The driver and the custodian officials were too threatened to react. The assailants were wearing helmets, riding a black Bajaj Pulsar motorbike.

“The victim was rushed to the hospital in a critical condition. He had sustained bullet injuries on his forehead and neck, and later died,” said a senior police official.

Bank officials later told the police that the robbed bag contained cash worth around Rs 1.5 crore that was brought to fill in other ATMs nearby. “But the looted amount is yet to be officially ascertained by us,” said a police official.

Later, senior officials from the Crime Branch and special cell of Delhi Police went to the spot to help the concerned district officials in investigation. The police also acquired CCTV footages from all nearby premises and started monitoring them. However, the assailants were not identified till late-evening.
