Bike-borne thieves injure woman, snatch phone

Motorbike borne miscreants injured a woman with a sharp weapon and snatched her smart phone at Ashoknagar, North 24 Parganas. The incident took place on Tuesday night at Shahid Sadan in Ashoknagar. Police detained two persons in connection with the incident.

The woman, an employee of a private company, was going to her house. She was talking to somebody over the phone when the miscreants attacked her.

“The miscreants stopped the motorbike in front of her. They tried to snatch her bag. But they could not get hold of it. Later, they slashed her hand with a sharp weapon. She was screaming with pain and agony. They took her mobile phone and escaped from there,” said a police officer.

The victim woman lodged a complaint with Ashoknagar police station. Later, she was taken to a local hospital.

“We caught two persons in connection with the case. They were detained for interrogation. These two persons were not directly involved in this incident but they knew the culprits,” said the officer.

The lady, however, could not recall the weapon by which the miscreants had injured her. “It could be a sharp cutting instrument. I was so scared that I could not recall it,” the woman said to the reporters.

In another incident, an elderly woman was shot to her death at Bankura’s Ranibandh area on Tuesday night. Some miscreants shot her and took the jewellery from her body. Investigation revealed that the assailants were known to her. They were following her while she was returning home from a social gathering. Police have initiated a murder case. The relatives of victim suspected a man, who was distantly related to the victim.

“The accused man is a resident of Nadia. He used to come to visit her. He also used to demand money from her,” said the investigating officer. The investigators started a search for the man.
