Woman shot dead in front of husband, two-year-old son

New Delhi: A woman was shot dead in front of her husband and two-year-old son in Delhi as they were returning from a Gurdwara in Shalimar Bagh early Wednesday morning. The assailants between three to four in number shot Priya Mehra multiple times in the face and neck, though the cops believe her husband who was driving the car could have been the real target. Priya succumbed to her injuries even before she was taken to the hospital.
The police say that Priya's husband told investigators that he had borrowed some money from a money lender and that could have prompted the attack. Cops are investigating all possible angles that could have lead to Priya's murder.
"Though the complainant has told us that he had to repay Rs 40 lakh including interest, we have not given a clean chit to anyone. Only a though investigation would reveal the actual motive of the murder," said Milind Dumbere, DCP North West.
The family was returning home in Rohini from a gurdwara in a Maruti Ritz car when they were attacked around 4 am on Wednesday morning. Questions are being raised on the timing of the incident, as the roads are empty and there is not much vehicular movement.
The cops are also questioning the husband to get some vital clues. The phone records of both Priya and her husband are also being scanned by police. The fact that the husband survived the attack despite the fact that the attackers were armed is raising questions. Police are trying to ascertain whether Priya's murder was the fallout of a botched robbery attempt or because her husband had run up a considerable debt.
