Mamata raises concerns over H-1B visas

Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has expressed concern over the United States' proposed reforms on Immigration laws making issuing of H-1B visas more stringent. She said that it was the duty of the Centre to protect the interest of the Indians working in the United States. Banerjee on Thursday tweeted: "News about H1B visas is worrying. We must protect out IT companies and professionals and give them full support. India is proud of the world class talent of its IT techies. It is our duty to secure their interests."

It may be mentioned that some youth had staged a demonstration at Kolkata International Book Fair against the Trump government's decision on Wednesday. They alleged that in the name of reforms the US government was trying to sack the I-T professionals and send them back to India. The agitators demanded withdrawal of the order. It may be mentioned that Centre has already taken up the matter with the White House.
