Model Sonika Chauhan dies in car crash, Bengali actor Vikram Chatterjee also injured but stable

Model-actor Sonika Chauhan was killed on Saturday morning in a road accident, after her car hit the divider and climbed the pavement on Rashbehari Avenue in south Kolkata. Sonika was travelling with Bengali actor friend Vikram Chatterjee, who was on the driving seat.

According to police, the locals rushed the couple to the hospital after taking them out of the mangled car. While Sonika was pronounced dead around 5AM, Vikram, who sustained injuries on head, leg and other parts of body, was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). A hospital doctor updated about Vikram's health condition. He said the actor was stable now and had been shifted to general bed after a CT scan.

The car, in which they were travelling, Toyota Corolla Altis, has been completely wrecked. Police said the SUV mounted the pavement while trying to avoid an oncoming car from a nearby lane. The car partially tilted on one side early in the morning near Rashbehari Avenue crossing, they added.
