Man held for possessing human bones at Bihar's railway station

Patna: In a shocking incident, the Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested a man carrying around 50 human bones and skeletons at Chhapra railway station in Bihar on Tuesday.

However, the skulls and skeletons have been seized from his possession and was travelling by the Balia-Sealdah Express.

Railway DSP Mohammad Tanvir said, the man — Sanjay Prasad — was taken into custody after the police found his activities suspicious and found two identity cards with him. "Some human bones were also found in his bag, which led us to probe further and arrest him. The bones were being smuggled from Balia in Uttar Pradesh," said the officer. One of the identity cards has an address of New Jalpaigudi, West Bengal.

The DSP said the incident may be linked to recovery of unclaimed human bones in Muzaffarpur last month.

Tanvir said, "Further investigation revealed that he has connections with Bhutan and Nepal because he had Bhutanese currency and Nepalese SIM cards. He confessed that he used to sell the bones to tantriks at high costs at those places, pointing at the fact that the smuggling racket has national and international links."

The police is also looking at the call details of the accused to get further details in the matter and investigate the purpose of smuggling the skeletons and bones.
