INX media case: SC to hear Karti's plea on April 3

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday fixed April 3 for hearing former Finance Minister P Chidambaram's son Karti Chidambaram's plea on whether the ED has a jurisdiction to probe the INX media case against him or not.
A three-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dipak Misra and also comprising Justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud, passed the order.
Karti had moved the Apex Court challenging the ED's jurisdiction and submitted to it that the probe agency had crossed its jurisdiction in probing his alleged involvement in the INX media case.
The probe agency, ED, had on last week, moved the Apex Court against the Delhi High Court order, which had granted relief to Karti in the money laundering case registered against him in the INX media case.
The Delhi High Court had in its order recently restrained the investigating agency, ED, from arresting Karti till the next date of hearing of his petition, questioning the ED probe in the matter.
Karti is an accused for his alleged involvement in the FIPB (Foreign Investment Promotion Board) clearance for Rs 305 crore irregular Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the INX media case in 2007, the CBI, the investigating agency, in the case, claimed.
The Apex Court had earlier in its detailed order on November 20, last year allowed Karti's plea to go to the UK from December 1 to 10 last year for the purpose of his daughter's admission with certain terms and conditions.
