'Don't play with quality of medical, legal education'

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday said it would not allow anyone to make a mockery of medical and legal education in the country and warned of stringent steps against those who play with its quality.

The top court said that for someone it may be a matter of making money but for the court it is only concerned with the quality of education.

The observations was made by a bench of Justices SA Bobde and Deepak Gupta when it was pointed out by the counsel for Medical Council of India (MCI) that it was not being allowed to carry out inspection in a medical college in Uttar Pradesh.

"We cannot allow anyone to make a mockery of medical education in the country. The other field with which we are concerned is legal education. Any one playing with the quality of education will be dealt severely," the bench said.

"For some it may be a matter for making money but for the court it is only concerned with the quality of education," it added.
